MajGen John Jarrard
Commanding General, 4th Marine DivisionAs the Commanding General of the 4th Marine Division, Major General Kevin G. Jarrard leads a unique and essential pillar of the Corps' strength: the Citizen-Marine. He is charged with harnessing the combined power of a force that stands ready to leave their civilian lives at a moment's notice, seamlessly integrating with the active component to provide the strategic depth and surge capacity the nation depends on. His leadership ensures this force remains a lethal, ready, and indispensable part of the Total Force Marine Corps.
Major General Jarrard’s command is rooted in a deep understanding of both special operations and the reserve component. A career infantry officer with combat tours in Iraq, his path has taken him through some of the Corps' most demanding assignments, including command of the elite 3d Force Reconnaissance Company. He has built partnerships and advised allied forces across the globe, from South America to the Middle East, giving him a broad perspective on modern conflict.
Crucially, he brings extensive experience from within the very community he now leads. Having served as a senior advisor to a reserve regiment, he intimately understands the unique dedication and challenges of the Citizen-Marine. As a general officer, he has commanded operational task forces in Europe and served as a deputy commander for mobilization, giving him direct insight into activating and deploying the nation's reserve power. Today, he is responsible for ensuring that when the call comes, the 4th Marine Division is trained, equipped, and ready to answer.
