
Capt Joshua Arvizu
StudentCaptain Arvizu is from Menifee, California. He graduated from Officer Candidates School (OCS) in July 2017. He attended San Diego State University, graduating in 2018 (Summa Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Arts in International Security and Conflict Resolution.
After graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. Upon completion, Second Lieutenant Arvizu attended the Marine Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, graduating in May 2019.
Following graduation, Second Lieutenant Arvizu reported to Battery S, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, where he served as the Battery Fire Direction Officer and Guns Platoon Commander. During this period, he was promoted to First Lieutenant and deployed with his platoon in support of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Arctic Edge 2020. In April 2020, First Lieutenant Arvizu assumed duties as the Battery Operations Officer. In October 2020, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan, in support of Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 21.2 and assumed duties as the Battalion Fires Plans Officer for 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines. First Lieutenant Arvizu redeployed to Camp Pendleton in April 2021 and was reassigned as the Battery Executive Officer (XO) for Battery T, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines. He later deployed again in support of UDP 22.1 from October 2021 to May 2022.
In July 2022, Captain Arvizu received orders to OCS in Quantico, Virginia. From July 2022 to August 2023, Captain Arvizu was assigned to Company D as a Platoon Commander (Officer Candidate Course 241 / 242) and as Company XO (Officer Candidate Course 243). From September 2023 to July 2025, he was selected to serve as the OCS Coordinator of Student Activities. In July 2025, Captain Arvizu reported to Expeditionary Warfare School.
Captain Arvizu’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award).
