Capt Jarrett Cavanagh

Captain Cavanagh is a native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  In 2018, Captain Cavanagh graduated from Norwich University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.  He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, graduating from Officer Candidate School in 2017 before he completed his degree.  In 2018, he checked in aboard The Basic School (TBS) and completed the Basic Officer Course (BOC) before attending the Marine Artillery Officer Basic Course (MAOBC), Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Course, and Target Mensuration Course in 2019 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. In August 2019, Captain Cavanagh reported to 1st Battalion 10th Marines aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune (MCBCL) as the Company Fire Support Officer (FSO) for Company C, 1st Battalion 2d Marines.  From September to October 2019, he participated in the Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 1-20 aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) as 3rd Battalion 2d Marines Battalion FSO.  From October to November 2019, Captain Cavanagh returned to Company C for MAGTF Warfighting Exercise (MWX) 1-20 aboard the MCAGCC prior to deploying in August of 2020. From August 2020 to February 2021, Captain Cavanagh deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan as the Battalion FSO for 1st Battalion 2d Marines.  In February 2021, Captain Cavanagh redeployed to MCBL and rejoined 1st Battalion 10th Marines. In March 2021, Captain Cavanagh reported to the Battery R, 1st Battalion 10th Marines and assumed duties as the Battery XO, facilitating the standup process of the first HIMARS Battery on the East Coast organic to 2d Marine Division.  From April of 2021 to June of 2022, Captain Cavanagh participated in Regimental exercises Rolling Thunder 21-2, Rolling Thunder 22-1, Rolling Thunder 22-2, Joint exercise Scarlet Dragon IV, and Training and Readiness (T&R) exercises.  Additionally, he facilitated the deployment of Battery R as provisional infantry in support of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) in September of 2021.  Captain Cavanagh facilitated the first live HIMARS shots and HIRAIN’s organic to 2d Marine Division and aboard MCBL. In July 2022, Captain Cavanagh executed Permanent Change of Station orders and reported back to TBS, being assigned to Combat Instructor Battalion (CIB).  He served as the Fire Support Package Primary from August 2022 to May 2023. In June 2023, Captain Cavanagh assumed duties as Staff Platoon Commander for Sixth Platoon, Company D, Basic Officer Course 4-23.  Upon completion of Company D’s training course in December 2023, Captain Cavanagh returned to the Fire Support Package until May 2024.  In June 2024, Captain Cavanagh assumed duties as Staff Platoon Commander for Sixth Platoon, Company D, Basic Officer Course 4-24. In January 2025, Captain Cavanagh took command of H&S Company, CIB before reporting to Expeditionary Warfare School in July 2025.
